Terms of Service

These terms set out the rules for using Screen Index and this website. They are intentionally direct because Screen Index is a local Mac desktop app, not an account-based service.

Last updated: 2026-08-10

1. Agreement and the app

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and 854 Labs LLC. By downloading, installing, or using Screen Index, or by using screenindex.app, you agree to them. You must be able to form a binding agreement where you live; if you use Screen Index for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to agree on its behalf.

Screen Index is a macOS app for finding, organizing, editing, and reusing screenshots. It processes and stores its screenshot library and related data locally on your Mac. It does not provide a Screen Index account or cloud backup service, and you are responsible for keeping backups and for having the rights needed to use the files you handle with the app.

2. License and acceptable use

Subject to these terms and any applicable store terms, 854 Labs grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Screen Index on Macs you own or control. Do not copy, distribute, rent, lease, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, decompile, or try to extract source code from the app except where applicable law expressly permits it. Do not use the app or website unlawfully, infringe another person’s rights, interfere with the website, or bypass security measures.

3. Stores, availability, and intellectual property

If Screen Index is available through an app store, that store’s terms and policies may also apply to your download or purchase. The store handles its own accounts, payment methods, and transaction records. We may change, pause, or discontinue features or availability where legally permitted, and do not promise a particular release schedule, uptime, compatibility result, or future feature.

Screen Index, its software, design, documentation, branding, and other materials are owned by 854 Labs or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These terms grant only the limited license above; they do not transfer ownership to you.

4. Disclaimers, liability, and changes

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Screen Index and this website are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. Review the app’s suggestions and keep your own backups; we do not guarantee that any feature will preserve every file state or meet every need.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, 854 Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or lost profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunities. Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid to 854 Labs for Screen Index in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or US$100 if you paid nothing. Except where the law where you live requires otherwise, Indiana law governs these terms. We may update them by posting a new version here; continuing to use Screen Index after it takes effect means you accept the update where permitted by law.
